About one year ago, we all enjoyed a beautiful video of thousands of paper lanterns being released in Poland to celebrate St. John’s Night, the shortest night of the year. It was great, and we all revisit the video sometimes to this day whenever we need to see something pretty for two minutes, which happens about once every two months. It’s just the best! And now look, a new video of a billion paper lanterns to watch, this time from this past weekend in Romania!
The video says that this has set the world record for the number of paper lanterns set off at once, but people through around the term “world record” so loosely these days that who even knows. Also: who even cares. It certainly looks enough like the world record! Hooray! Beautiful! Let’s all refuse to marry our future husbands or wives unless they recreate this when they propose because if they don’t then they must not truly love us or even KNOW US AT ALL! (Via SayOMG.)

It makes me feel better that I’m not the only one that mixes up the words “throw” and “through.” English is a messed up language, it’s amazing anyone can speak or write it.
Also, this is great, don’t ever stop with the lantern videos, Kelly
Who knew that the most beautiful thing really WAS a bag floating in the air?
the people of two-towns-over remain furious.
Oh my goodness!! So pretty! I love paper lanterns! I was watching this without sound, so I’m also going to assume that Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi were singing a sweet duet in the background.
This is beautiful and I really love this video but seriously guys, I’ll accept the proposal even if you throw the ring at me. No need to get so intricate.
I once did something like this in Taiwan for Chinese New Year. What you do is write down wishes on the lantern (Mine were “Hope my little bro graduates” and “Steven Harper doesn’t get re-elected”) if God/Buddha/the Jade Emporer/whoever likes what he/she/it sees, the wish is granted.
So? Did your wishes come true?
My brother graduated. Unfortunately, Steven Harper is prime minister still.
Oh well. That was the more important one for sure.
You’re right about that. Anyway, the setting (this old logging town built by the Japanese) was what made it extra special. Say what you want about the rest of the island, but alpine Taiwan is gorgeous.

nice!
It’s very pretty and all but I am seriously stressing out over the fire hazard potential going on. I mean, they’re kind of releasing heaps of pure kindling into the air, each one mere inches away from a LIVE FIRE. Sorry to rain (fire) on your parade.
This seems so much more successful than the wedding I went to last year where I got too drunk and lit like 3 paper lanterns all the way on fire before I was able to successfully launch one.
