This weekend, The Simpsons opened with a new credit sequence for the first time in 20 years, and it wasn’t that new.

It’s like that old saying goes, if it ain’t broke, fix it a little bit, add some Easter eggs for the superfans, but mostly don’t fix it, but kind of fix it, but don’t fix it too much, but make sure that you don’t just not fix it at all. That old gem.

  1. I don’t mind it actually, even though the very beginning is kind of weird with the sense of depth. And the flat screen TV seems a little out of place.

  2. I think it has something to do with the show now airing in HD (and it looks amazing).

I half-expected them to cut away to a shot of the couch with John Cleese sitting on it.

“And now, for something completely the same.”

  4. I really don’t like this which is a shame b/c the new episodes are actually pretty decent. All the self-referential winking and nudging seems to say “Even WE realize that every memorable storyline happened 5-10 years ago.” And they re-recorded the music and it has all the oomph of a soundtrack to a Nicholas Sparks movie. Maybe it’s just bad mixing. Meh’s for everyone.

Liked the opening… and the show has actually had some decent episodes this season. Kudos.

  6. Is it cool/safe to hate The Simpsons again? Because i still hate the last five seasons of The Simpsons.

  7. My biggest complaint is the fact that the simpsons were using AV cables to get HD. Component cables, anyone?

    I’m a nerd.

    • Their TV is HD but they’re still using the same rabbit ears, which would be connected by a coaxial cable. You can also see the empty HDMI slots on the side, maybe?
