Oh man, you guys. So, Jin is alive, duh. You know, for as inconvenient as people keep claiming these time-jumps are, sometimes they seem really convenient. Like when you are about to get shot. “Time-jump? Don’t mind if I do!” That’s what I would say if I was on the island. Jin catches up with the others (not The Others) and they go looking for the Orchid, and Charlotte starts going crazy, and I actually LOL’ed when Locke found the shaky pirate ship wheel and it was off its axis. LOLOLOL. “Oh no! The crazy green light time-jump move the island pirate ship wheel needs a little push!” Meanwhile, back in LA, it’s all gun in your face this, and pay a visit to a special friend that. WE’VE GOT TO GO BACK!

Wait, do they have to go back?

You guys, we should tooootally go back to that island!

Uh oh, they seriously shouldn’t come back to this island, you guys!

The island is giving everyone really mixed messages. Remember last season when spooky Claire visited stupid Kate and told her not to bring Aaron back to the island no matter what? But isn’t Claire part of the island now or something? She’s the island’s girlfriend now. And then last night when Charlotte started speaking Korean and telling Jin not to let Sun come back to the island because “this place is death” (which is also the title of last night’s episode because perfect). Where did that come from? That wasn’t her warning them, it was something else speaking THROUGH her. Was it THE ISLAND? But then there’s Jack’s father, hanging out in the cave, being all snooty. He won’t even help Locke up! What a jerk! Then again, he did tell Locke to move the island, not Ben! But he’s friends with Claire! They chill together in the cabin all the time! I need an adult!

So which is it? Should they go back or should they not go back? I mean, I’m not an idiot. I know that they all will go back eventually. But SHOULD they? That’s a real question that is worth asking of imaginary people on a fantastically impossible show, right? Because of how they get to make their own decisions and aren’t just the narrative puppets being (sometimes carelessly) forced along a predetermined path by a team of high-paid Hollywood hot shot writers. SHOULDA COULDA WOULDA WON’T BRING BOONE BACK.

So which is it?

Lost Journal: Dad’s Christmas Dating Advice

  1. Charlotte definitely looked and sounded possessed.

I desperately want a video of Ben’s freakout from last night. He pioneered the art of sounding like an Epic Grandpa. SO HELP ME I WILL TURN THIS CAR AROUND SO FAST. NO DISNEYLAND ISLAND FOR YOU YOU LITTLE INGRATES.

  3. I was really hoping Danielle would time-jump with Jin. Anything they’re touching, right? Save the French Lady, Save the World.

  4. I’ve only actually been watching it since this season (I tried watching the DVDs and mehhh) and I’m pretty sure I’ve been caught up ENOUGH from recaps and stuff.

ANYWAY. One recurring theme on the show is “Things are supernatural! No they’re not.” I don’t think the island is sentient or anything, but it’s become pretty obvious now that someone is guiding their time travel. My guess is that it’s Future Locke, time traveling everyone so they’ll all come back to the island. ALSO? Those ghosts? They’re not ghosts. They’re dead characters who have been UNKILLED by taking their dead bodies and reversing time (it happens!) and then they travel through time and space to give people meaningful messages so they all know that THEY HAVE TO GO BACK.

ALSO, that chick that’s being dying for a month? There’s probably going to be a scene where her and Jin meet in a tangent time jump that we never saw. Because it wasn’t like the island was speaking through her, it was like Jin knew she spoke Korean because they had already met (even though we’re supposed to think they haven’t).

Goddamnit I’m talking about Lost. I just Lost the game.

    • that’s one disadvantage of just watching the show this season. jin and charlotte have met before, and have discussed the fact that she knows korean. that wasn’t necessarily the ‘island talking through her.’

Charlotte, through the Island I’m guessing, tells Jin not to bring “her” back. She doesn’t specifically say Sun. My guess is that “her” is Ji Yeon, since she was never a part of the Island and it would cause it to become unstable. Just my two cents (where cent = bulletproof theory).

The only thing I don’t get is why, if Jin has met the French chick when shefirst arrived on the island, why doesn’t the French chick recognize Jin in the first few seasons when we’re initially introduced to her?

    • Because she went crazy, duh.
OR because they never actually met during present times? Can you recall a scene where they have?

  7. I had the same question after last night. Is the island bad now? When you think about it, everyone who has come to the island has died or is dying from the time flashes. Everyone keeps saying, “this is happening because they left.” but once they do return that obviously isn’t the end because we still have a season left.
I’m guessing they have a mission or something once the Oceanic 6 return but it’ll probably all depend on whether the island is good or bad. Maybe they’re supposed the destroy the island to stop Widmore or Ben from using it for evil or maybe they’re supposed to protect it in some way… I dunno.
My mind is going in weird directions now. dang.

One quick point–Christian Shephard isn’t just friends with Claire, he’s her dad. I’ve always assumed he was the one who took her from one dimension (aren’t dimensions a part of E from Eel’s dad’s theory about time travel?) into the other..or Other.

Christian Shephard…what a great name. So laden with import.

  9. Obviously they shouldn’t go back to the island. Who would actually want to live there when there’s a monster made of smoke and no functioning toilet (unless you’re in the right time period)?

    Also, I’ll miss Charlotte.

  10. also, last night’s episode confirmed a fear i never knew i had: gingers with nosebleeds.

even worse: gingers with white lips and nose bleeds.

    terrifying.

what, no fear of loosing one’s arm? That looked painful!

  12. alex  |   Posted on Feb 12th, 2009

Frozen Donkey Wheel man, get your terminology right.

  13. Common mistake of Lost viewers: Claire didn’t say to not bring “Aaron” back, she said not to bring “him” back. It could be Aaron, but “him” could also mean Ben…
