Whenever there’s a thing that people like these days, people talk about making a movie version of it. I’m not a very powerful Hollywood mover and shaker yet, so I can only assume that this is because they already know people like this thing and also because it’s easier than thinking of a new thing that they don’t know whether or not people will like. And also because the fans need and, frankly, deserve more of the thing they’re a fan of. Sometimes this ends up coming to fruition, like in the case of the well-loved Smurfs movie, and sometimes this just hangs around forever until everybody is so GD sick of hearing about it that even if it DOES actually happen, it will seem so worn and annoying that maybe certain people will hardly care about it anymore at all, like in the cases of the Arrested Development movie, and the Wet Hot prequel, and the Ouija Board movie, please, for the love of God, and also now the Party Down movie. The cast and creators have been tossing this idea around for the last few months, and lately, specifically just the other day in this interview with Adam Scott from The Playlist, it’s being tossed around in more serious terms:

We’re like 90% there, we’re hoping to do it maybe next summer, if everyone’s schedules work out and the guys get time to write a script… They have kind of a skeleton of a story worked out so we know where it’s going to go but we just have to kind of cross the t’s and dot the i’s, or something. But Starz are being super cool and they’re going to let us do it, and we’re all excited, we all want to do it.

Uggghh. I really don’t even understand why he would say things like this. “If everyone’s schedules work out and the guys get time to write a script.” Puh-leeeeeeze. Why not just say that you’d love to do it if the opportunity arose and then NEXT QUESTION PLEASE? Is it because keeping a buzz about a possible movie in the air sells more DVDs? IS THAT WHY? DVD SALES? Gross, Adam. Why don’t we just talk about these other movies that would probably get made If everyone’s schedules work out and the guys get time to write a script? Huh? Why not just talk about these?

  1. REALLY looking forward to the Carrie Diaries: the Movie in 2021!!!

    • And with any luck summer of 2032 will bring us Carrie: The Origin’s Origin, when we find out what she was like in junior high. Crushes! Slambooks! First menstruation! Stickerbooks! Gettin’ boobs! Roller skates!

  2. as long as i get more casey klein i’m going to be ok with it.

also – a full move about ron’s porn career would awesome. like a remake of boogie nights, but with the Party Down characters

  3. Kelly, why do you have to be such a Party Downer?

  4. Can we get a Giant Red Crab movie made soon people?? I’ve been waiting for that since I took a trip to Red Lobster with the fam last weekend

  5. As long as we’re making requests, I’d like to request a movie about a Hottie. And a Nottie. I don’t care what you call it.

  6. I know I bring up Veronica Mars a lot here, but considering Party Down is created by Rob Thomas, creator of Veronica Mars, this seems fitting…

    • I want a Veronica Mars movie as much as I want an Angel movie. We were promised that as well. Not a comic, a movie. We were promised a movie.

And if Hollywood doesn’t think I’m serious, THEY DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE POWER OF CAPS LOCK.

    • I would sell my ….something that’s not my dog or eventual firstborn or a body part… for a Veronica Mars movie. But I’m only interested if she and Logan get together in the end. None of this Stosh Piznarski crap. (Love u tho Chris Lowell.)

      • I’m only down if Logan gets eaten by a shark in the first 15 minutes and then Deputy Leo comes back.

        • Oooh Deputy Leo. You know he’s in Zooey D’s new show? He takes his shirt off a lot, so I will probably keep watching.

          • Yeah, definitely very happy to see him back on TV. The fact that he takes his shirt off twice in the first episode bodes very well, though I am a little concerned that they’re just trying to make him a poor man’s Barney Stinson.

        • I saw him once in real life and started squealing so much on the inside that I made an actual peep out loud. I’m not ashamed. He’s awesome. I love me some Deputy Leo.

      • I just want to see the ending of the story. I don’t need it to be a happy ending, just the ending that the creators intended. I saw the show on DVD, and thought something was wrong with my disc, that somehow the last 2 episodes went missing.

Same thing with Gilmore Girls. It had an ending, but not with the original writers’. The final season was a disaster, and I would just like to know what the creator intended for these characters.

      • But yeah, Piz needs to hit the road.

        • I used to yell at him to stay away from Veronica as the love she shared with Logan was epic — spanning continents and decades and whatever. (Still can’t hear that song without getting nostalgic…) He got the idea, mostly because of my yelling. Fucking Piz, why couldn’t his sensitive schtick have been perfect for the damaged Mac. Then again, Veronica sucked so much during season 3… she drove Logan away. All he wanted to do was keep her from getting attacked.
And how amazing was Ryan Hansen as Dick? He ended up being my favorite after season 3… which was such a shit season. I’ve even tried to put down that awful NBC show he’s on just because I like it when he gets work.

  7. I think the Party Down movie actually has a better chance than most since it would probably not cost much to produce. Or maybe I’m just kidding myself because I don’t want to live in a world where Adam Scott lies to me.

    • Well, after they pay for props, they won’t have to shell out for catering. And since props and catering are each 50 percent of any Hollywood budget BOOM this movie is half-price.

  8. Imperfect Strangers would be pretty awesome. I would definitely watch that if it came to HBO. What the heck is Balki up to these days?!

  9. Mmmmm. Chocolate chip pancakes.

  10. Pizza: The Movie

  11. Hands up, who still likes me?

  12. I was definitely one of those who sent this slashfilm link in. Cause I am in fact still genuinely excited by every time someone says they’re going to make a movie of a show I love. Don’t take away my childhood!
