I imagine Time Sculpturists everywhere are hanging out in their Time Sculpture cafes drinking Absinthe (because they drink only Absinthe) and saying “(Whoever did this) totally sold out to the man.”:
Remember when the “swing” Gap ads from the ’90s were really cutting-edge, but we can, like, make them with our cellphones now or whatever? Time sculpturists might want to start worrying. And drinking less absinthe. (Via Stereogum.)

i can’t believe 200 cameras were wasted on this.
you have to admit that is pretty cool. of course it will look outdated in ten years, because everything involving special effects looks outdated in ten years, but it’s fun to see the envelope pushed.
it looks outdated by the end of the commercial.
had this been a sony bravia commercial, this would have been an entirely different post.
I really liked the music.
Wasted? Outdated? The effect is really well executed, though aesthetically uninteresting. That took a lot of work to think up a new way of using a dated, one-trick-pony, commercial effect. (Nerd alert) When the “Time Track®” effect was first being used, it was only a 180 degree grouping of still cameras and now we’re seeing a 360 degree collection of high-res video cameras(they saved the money on wardrobe; concept development) pointed AT each other, requiring a ton of work in post production to paint them out. Also, someone fucked up because the dude in the purple who bounces the basketball DOESN’T HAVE A SHADOW.
I read about how they made it, and the nerd in me says that it’s cool. But seriously, spend all that money to film hipsters throwing shit and jumping? That annoys me.
The song is also tight.
Str8MurdaSon, YOU’RE a hipster who throws shit and jumping.
