Last night’s The Office wasn’t the best, but that’s to be expected for the first episode of the season without Holly Flax/Amy Ryan (bring her back!) Dwight and Jim both got bad customer service reviews from Kelly, later finding out that is was because they skipped one of her parties, and there was a Big Serious Soap Opera Moment when Pam’s new friend (played by Mad Men‘s Rich Sommer) gave her a big speech about how she should stay in New York and follow her dreams, blah blah blah, while Jim listened from a tiny bluetooth device (a full-episode gimmick) in her ear. The only scene that had everyone in my Thursday night TV watching group (shut up, those are fun) laughing out loud was this one, where Michael makes Jim and Dwight act out a sales call in order to test their customer service skills:

Ha! “Microgment.” Will Pam move back to Scranton? Or will Jim realize his crappy job isn’t anything to stay for and join her in New York? And doesn’t it feel like this all already happened already?

I hate to say it, but you are wrong. The scene with Kelly in Michael’s office was fantastic. Mindy Kaling FTW. I like it better when she gets more than one throwaway line in an episode.

  2. I thought last night was pretty good, but I guess I’m used to getting one good laugh an episode…

i must disagree. last night’s episode was full of win. it was especially refreshing after last week’s depressing and unfunny lamefest. i immensely enjoyed the bluetooth gimmick, the kelly scene, and the wedding planning, all of which brought the lulz.
