We all had a lot of fun yesterday with the tiny motivational bicycle speaker video. Some of us may have even linked to it twice already today. “We aren’t saying who, but some of us may have already done that.” – Gabe. That’s what Gabe would say. It made us feel very good about ourselves and for a while we thought maybe we really could do it. That if we just tried, and kept trying, it would eventually happen for us. It was Wednesday then. But today it is Thursday and maybe some of us have realized that we cannot do it, no matter how hard we try. That there are limitations. That bicycles are very scary, even when you are provided with a bike lane and have a helmet on and have a flashing thing on you so cars can see you. They are still very scary and anyone who says otherwise is lying and I don’t know why they are lying, we all know the truth.

Poor little guy wanted to get on the bike but was overcome with grief from the NFL lockout. I hear ya, little buddy. We all want our Sundays.
Ah, there we go. The sweet tragedy of parental good intentions mixed with a fear of the unknown. This is the childhood I remember.

Man, why is learning to ride a bike even such a rite of passage? The bicycle is an outdated mode of transportation! It encourages people to wear shorts that are at least uncomfortable for the wearer as for those who have to look at them. And everybody hates bicyclists! If you’re walking, people on bicycles are the worst! And if you’re driving, people on bicycles are still the worst! Ain’t nobody need to learn how to ride one of those things!
Not looking forward to teaching your kid how to ride a bike, huh?
I mean, does he REALLY need to learn? REALLY?
If he wants to live in a city after college and isn’t making enough money to buy a car, then maybe? Probably?
Story
When I was about 3 years old, there was this Rowlf the Dog puppet that was all the rage one year around Christmas time. My uncle went from store to store searching for it, and finally found it. When he gave it to me on Christmas, I cried hysterically because (I guess) I was scared of it. That was thirty years ago, and he still reminds me of it all the time. Kids are weird and unpredictable.
End Story
The moral I took away from this is that old dudes are weird and unpredictable. Get over it, R2′s uncle! That was 30 years ago and he was a child!

Puppets! What is with them? We had a “devil” puppet that was part of a set (princess, king, jester, etc.) and my little brother and I made my mom take it and hide it because we were afraid of it. Same with two Where The Wild Things Are stuffed animals. Although I think my mom loved those stuffed animals.

We are all crying in the driveway of life with the football t-shirt of love only barely protecting us from the hot tar of disappointment. Standing, unknowable, unmoving is the bicycle. The bicycle is God.
This is how I react whenever my girlfriend tries to teach me how to drive stick.
If you were better at driving a stick you wouldnt need a girlfriend, if you know what I’m sayin… (no, im not sure I do either)

I frequently type lol, but I am actually laughing out loud at this.
This was basically me as a kid, except instead of annoying crying I made up excuses to hang out with friends down the street. My dad eventually gave up on teaching me and I never learned how to ride a bike until yesterday, when I saw that other video (actually it was a couple years ago, but whatever).
I love videos like this where I can understand what’s happening without hearing the video. That way no one knows why I’m quietly chuckling to myself. Myabe I think spreadsheets are hilarious! Secrets!
