Wow, ninjas. Here are my random thoughts on this Friday afternoon.

1. Guys, what a great week, right? Right? It’s been so good. At least the first four days. I liked how each of the bloggers brought this bit of their personality in and shared these great things that wouldn’t normally have been part of the regular Videogum itinerary, you know? Just FYI, all five of this week’s guest bloggers are on Twitter: Thisismynightmare, BradOFarrell, Gabe Liedman, Becca, and me.

2. We guest bloggers got access to all the tips this week. It was great and terrible. Great because monsters really do send in a lot of great material. Terrible because the tips line is ALSO on so many PR flacks’ mass-email lists and we got so many inane PR puff pieces to sift through it was crazy. I’m looking at you, TMZ!

3. A big thank you on behalf of myself and the other guest bloggers to Justin Street, Scott Lapatine, and Amrit Singh. Those guys did a lot of work behind the scenes to let us be able to do our thing.

4. Monsters of Los Angeles! Monster meet-up tomorrow. (This is an unofficial, non-‘Gum sanctioned event, lawyers.) If you need more details, ask in the comments.
What: Bowling & Karaoke
When: Tomorrow at 8pm
Where: ALL STAR LANES

My new standard response when I don’t understand something: “WHO R DAY? SUM SORTA VIDYA GAME?”

Thank you Calvin Munkton for both this new phrase and for your name, which I will use when I want a free stress ball at a trade show, but don’t want to write down my own name.

One of my jobs is with a SEO firm. I’m not defending it or anything, it’s really not the greatest thing in the world and businesses throw a lot of money its way for really no reason other than idiots on Google tend to give their business blindly to the top results (business, neat!). But if something this obscure seems like something worth ridiculing, I think it’s clear we need Gabe back. I hate to be the rotten apple, or piss on parades but this week is a little like cold coffee: it works for its stated purpose, but its missing the kick and warm comfort you’re used to.

BREAKING CONSPIRACY NEWS

Do you think that it is a coincidence that “Gabe” is on vacation this week? And that we have guest “bloggers”? Of course not! Look at the facts.

1. On Monday, we had “This Is My Nightmare.” We all know that nightmares are subconscious states where our deepest desires are contained by x-rays. What did she post? “I’d hit that”, a post which “turned on” certain sleeper operatives.

2. On Tuesday “Brad O’Farrell” blogged at length about Natalie Portman. Consider her name: Nat A Lie Port Man. He is telling us that in a port, the thugs of the New World Order will begin their invasion of the USA and that this is NOT A LIE! The crying was because the American Dream died.

3. On Tuesday “Soft” “Gabe”, blogged about Roseanne and Dahmner. The letters in their names spell “Fog Harmed One Baste Snare”. I don’t have to tell you what that means.

4. This morning when I woke up, I had on clothes and was not covered in vomit. Yet, last night, when I passed out, I was naked and had messed myself. Who cleaned me up? WAKE UP PEOPLE!

5. Coca-Cola is talking if you listen.

  1. wertrew my caption contest comment had more votes than “that one” so you should revise, bro

  2. Great week, Monsters! I had so much fun guest blogging on Monday and reading the other guest bloggers throughout the week. You guys were awesome. Thanks for being so nice to us, y’all!

Now, it’s the weekend. Sleepover at my place:

  3. I stayed late at work to see this. It was worth it.

  4. Congrats to all the ballers and bloggers. Great week! Enjoy the weekend–you earned it!

  5. Never have a so compulsively hit an F5 button this week. All the guest bloggers were phenomenal!

  6. Yes! I got Editor’s Choice! One step closer to my EGOT!

    To our guest bloggers:
Great Job! I missed Gabe but wouldn’t mind if guest blogging week became a Once a Month thing.

  7. I just had the weirdest boner dream.
But it wasn’t a boner dream — it was a place! And you and you and you were there!

  8. Well done all guest bloggers!!!

hey, check it out.. i totally put Hard Gabe’s mouse in Jell-O! Tuesday’s gonna be GREAT!!

  9. I clicked through and saw I was in the ball and at first I was like

    but then I was like

    AWESOME JOB GUEST BLOGGERS!!!

  10. DSN, my Editor’s Note is not contained in the MB, but this is what it was:
You put the DIRTY in DirtySpaceNews. I like your spunk (and similar opinions)!

  11. What a great week! Congrats all the monsters who made it to the ball, but I’d say this week we’re all winners!

  12. Work week sucked? Work week sucked. Post it again? Port it again!

  13. Really a great week to read, guesters.

Hopefully Gabe doesn’t fuck it up next week.

  14. You guys rocked! Really, you were all awesome. And congrats to the Ball party too!

  15. Great job, guest bloggers! Although, I’m a bit worried about thisismynightmare. I’m afraid her obsession with Ryan Gosling could take a deadly turn.

  16. Hey there monsters!

Just wanted to shout out to the Internet that I’m working on a research paper about Videogum. If anyone is interested in participating in an interview or chat of sorts you can contact me at hblumer@ucsd.edu

Shout out to werttrew and Gabe for already answering my interview questions! Also great job on the guest blogging werttrew. Truly the best.

  17. OK LA Monsters, Let’s do this!

    Bowling tomorrow! Eagle Rock Lanes!
Be There or Be Square, Nerds!

    • Oh my goodness! My suggestion for location was taken up!! I’m so honored, but sad because I might not be able to make it!

How do I convince my roommate that we should go bowling instead of having a dinner party??

    • Damnit. I turn 21 this weekend and everything too. It’s a crappy feeling to know this will be happening like 12 miles from where I’ll be -sans bowling ball, karoake machine, videogum monsters, or friends.

      sad.

      • Brain/Brian: I don’t know if your problem is rides or uncooperative friends, but you don’t have to be 21 to get into Eagle Rock Lanes! Maybe that will convince someone to drive you.

        • I mean that I will be stuck somewhere else, “celebrating” my 21st over a formal dinner with family, when I’d rather be meeting strangers at a bowling alley. that seems like a much funner way of spending your 21st birthday. I need to check when these gatherings are made more often, so i don’t get stuck with prior engagements when I hear about them. I might also want to try and avoid making “prior engagements” in the future, because they just sound pretentious and boring. woeisme.

          enjoy the lanes though!

  18. I had a pretty busy (read: crappy) work week, so I didn’t get a chance to comment as much as I would’ve liked. But what a fun week of posts! Everyone did a great job! Now it’s the weekend, time to sleep!

  19. I know it may not be reflected in the Ball, but when it comes to my comments…

Have a good weekend, Monsters. See you on the other side.

  20. Well, we didn’t burn the house down while Gabe was away. In fact, I think we spruced it up quite nicely. Congrats to all guest bloggers! I got Flaming Lips tickets! WOOHOO!

    • It turns out supergluing a vase together does work!

    • Better make sure the bags of garbage and beer cans get to the landfill and not some ditch in the country. We don’t want the police backtracing an errant piece of junk mail with our parents’ address on it to us and fine us for littering AND get us grounded.*

      *True Monster Confessions

      • In high school my friend threw an epic party in his wealthy subdivision. A bunch of jerks showed up and left bottles and cans in the neighbors’ yards with his father’s business card nestled within. Those guys were jerks.

    • I read this at first like the guest bloggers got you tickets to see the lips, regardless have fun they’re great!
      tumblr_l7q04lSVAc1qcfba3o1_500.gif

  21. Oh man! What a week. This may have been the funnest week of commenting yet! A sincere thank you to all of the guest bloggers, and a sincere apology to my boss who saw my productivity plummet to near 0.

  22. Thanks for your up votes!

  23. y’al were good enough but #TEAMSOFT4EVER.

  24. I think I found Gabe:

Chillax now sir, but don’t forget Monday’s coming!

  25. I lost my job this month, but then I spent more time on Videogum and made the Ball! So I guess Justin Bieber is right.

    Thank you, Monsters.

  26. “One hundred, please.” — You, this weekend, buying all the tickets for Big Momma’s House, because that movie franchise hasn’t been inexplicably throwing money at itself. Seriously, who keeps seeing this garbage? This weekend is going to be one big fart-and-fall-down-fest for tons of people.

  27. hooray guest bloggers!

  28. I’ll be there for you too.

  29. I GOT THE IN JOKE.

All I’m saying is that, though I may not be such an avid monster as many of the monsters, but I love Videogum and I got the in joke and I have a beer. Friday. what.

  30. Coming out of lurking to say the guest bloggers did an excellent job. I was very entertained during the week while working for the man. Maybe Gabe should let one Monster a week write a blog based off the top rated comment or editors choice. I mean…. I know you guys are master commenters but those were some great blogs.

  31. Well, with the help of five selfless Guest Bloggers, the Monsters didn’t miss a beat. They had their Ball, tucked in for a long weekend, and dreamed of a world where cat videos were exchanged for goods and services.

  32. Hurray for the guest bloggers! Hurray for all the MB winners! Hurray for Gabe taking a break because he’s old and weak and we need him to rest up! Huzzah! HURRAH!

  33. I’m coming out of Lurker Nation to say how much I loved all the guest bloggers. It was like, Gabe is our dad who of course is awesome and we love to death and he is really really the super-est. But, what if, it turns out all of our Cool Aunts and Cool Uncles are coming for a visit, and they are all visiting in the same week! That’s pretty much what it was like this week.
