From the YouTube Description:

charlie and spike are two kittens with myotonia congenita, otherwise known as ‘fainting goat’ syndrome. at the slightest sound, the kittens respond by collapsing and falling into a rigid paralysis which lasts about a minute before they return to normal. This condition has hardly ever before been diagnosed in a cat, is rarely found in dogs and is more common in goats. The kittens are able to walk, but they cannot run or jump. aside from this they are normal. sad to report that the black and white kitten (spike) died on 27th october from respiratory failure. thanks for all the kind messages. Due to the crass insensitivity of some of the posts, comments have been disabled

Anyhow: you can stop sending this in as a tip now! (Thanks for the tip, Ryan, Darci, and Shoogyboom.)

  2. I’ll just pretend they aren’t sick and just like to nap all the time because who doesn’t

  3. I had to stop after the slo-mo fainting cat because it was just too much. I couldn’t decide whether to laugh or cry.

  4. At first I was like

But then, reading that they died and on my birthday too, I was like

  5. Isnt this a comedy-ish site? Way to take me down a notch.

  6. “…at the slightest sound, the kittens respond by collapsing and falling into a rigid paralysis which lasts about a minute before they return to normal.”

Maybe they should be taken to a home where there isn’t constant piano music?

the same thing happens to me when i hear the black eyed peas.

  8. Whoo-boy. I need kitten gifs STAT, and lots of them.

  9. Oh, geez…

Something adorable that puts tears in my eyes from a source of laffs? This is all seeming familiar.

  11. Not to pile on the sadness, but the owner gave news that the black one passed away from respiratory failure. Apparently this disease and its complications are very difficult for cats to live with.

  12. Just edit them into those SPCA commercials and I’ll be an emotional wreck. Yes, you can haz all my money!

  13. This my letter of a apology to the videogum community.

I did not do my homework on the clip which you have now seen and sent it in as tip. I did not read the youtube description. I thought these kittens were cute, and after researching moyotonia on wikipedia, I assumed that these kittens would have long and rambuncious semi-normal lives the way that goats do.

I was wrong and now I’m just like that guy with the cornrows throwing his elbows and knee-elbows into solid bricks. I promise to this community that I will no longer send tips in. With the election year coming to a close we already have all of the depression we need.

    I’m terribly sorry.

  14. “Yeah, I mean, it is tough, you know, having this condition, sure. But you know, my owner loves me a lot and that makes me feel good. Sometimes, I get down, but you know, she picks me up in her hand and just sets me on her lap and pets me and pets me and it makes me so happy. It is that kind of happy that just burrows deep down in you and that you know you will have with you forever, no matter what happens. Yeah, I will be honest, life is hard sometimes, but to love and to be loved, that makes everything worth it in the long run, no matter what.”

    –These kittens

  15. Even after I knew one of the cats died and it’s a sad disease, it still made me LOL so much to see them fainting. Can’t we just enjoy the visual comedy and try to forget that the world is terrible and everything dies?

    • because these kittens are “cute” they are lavished with love so that despite the misfortune of their condition they still get a vastly superior quality existence than say those of us who are not cute and spend our days unloved and hated upon and reviled which in turn darkens our spirits and makes us into nastier and uglier beings then we would be otherwise

so look on the bright side

  16. It makes me wonder, if there was some kind of operation that would make them deaf, would it cure this? Or is it some kind of sensation from the vibrations?

  17. Were there a god, Carl Paladino and Mel Gibson would have this disease.

  18. R.I.P., Spike. You’re in kitty heaven now, fainting with the kitty angels.

  19. Sad.

Thank god we only have 20 more minutes or so until another post and we can move on and laugh and make fun of things again.

  20. My kitty often abruptly collapses on the floor also, but it’s because he wants to get his belly rubbed. I’m going to forget all the sad stuff about these kitties and pretend they were doing it for the belly rubz.

  21. How many times do they have to show them collapsing?! It’s like some overly long and unfunny SNL skit (i.e. most of them). Not to get too #seriousgum, but I never found the fainting goats funny either. I sure as hell would be further freaked out if my body failed me every time I was startled.

  22. I’m at a loss to understand the point of this video at all seen as it can only function as to make people laugh or cry, depending on how awful you are. They should just take it down, especially after having to disable the comments. They obviously enjoy the youtube hits more too much to mind people laughing at their little dead kitty with THE WHITE TUMMY AND SOCKS oh my god it’s so depressing…..

  23. can we just bring back the kitten bombs?

  24. And yet the tip I sent in for an adorable, lighthearted, and frankly amazing video of cats playing patty-cake was completely ignored (available here for anyone who’s interested: I know you’re team dog, Gabe, but this is too far.

  25. This is the kid that owns these cats

  26. My cat Zooey had a hemetoma in his ear and so all week we’ve been all over the little guy. Cleaning his ear of the blood, getting him to take his meds, and making him wear the cone of shame. I just love his stupid little face and hate how uncomfortable he is. I just want to take these little kittens and cuddle them ever so quietly.

  27. This video can be sync’ed up with “While you wait for the others” by Grizzlybear so awesomely…

  28. Cats with myotonia congenita are rarer than YouTube videos without confederate flags in the background.
