It is either called the March to Keep Fear Alive or the Rally to Restore Sanity depending on whose jokey interpretation of world events you prefer.
“Show Your Tits to Keep Fear Alive Rally” also works.
Here are the video announcements of Stewart’s (http://bit.ly/bctMap) and Colbert’s (http://bit.ly/dAevxU) rival rallies
50,000 hipsters will ironically show up to support the cause and then ironically vote for Palin/Beck in 2012.
So close to the truth.
The Rally To Restore Sanity sounds like the perfect event at which to hold a Videogum Everywhere mission, to just go and have conversations with each other.
I second this.
We did it, you guys! We finally hate everything! Mission Accomplished!
I feel wrong upvoting this, but I did anyway.
Wait, am I not supposed to like The Daily Show and the Colbert Report anymore either? Why am I not allowed to like all these things that I like? I don’t want to be a bad person.
You’ll like whatever Gabe tells you to like…and you’ll like it!

you might be reading a bit too much into this one.
You guys, I think Jon Stewart might be serious. I know he’s probably the most trusted news source for the 18-30 crowd (demographicsgum!) but he is still a comedian, and I’m having weird acid-style visions of “Man of the Year”.
WHAT DOES IT MEEEEAAAAN?
Well, I don’t care if they are parody events. I am going because 1) I live 15 minutes from the Mall and 2) Jon Stewart is the Best
don’t mean to play hatergum here, but although i am a massive daily show fan and have nothing but respect for Stewart and his intentions. this makes me sad, if not for just knowing that the Rally to Restore Sanity will really just rile up all of the insane people.
but then again, i’m sure it will be little more than this:
Runny eggs rile up insane people. You just can’t win with them:
“That liberal socialist Muslim terrorist at Denny’s served me runny eggs. What’s this country come to?”
i agree….but if the waitress or cook tells the customer “sometimes eggs are just runny. calm down.” it usually triggers an even more insane response.
i don’t suggest we coddle these idiots, or let them “run the asylum” so to speak. i just think outright mocking them just makes them crazier…isn’t it better to ignore them.
Yes, explainer “voice of reason” guy, but I prefer mocking them: “Tell the cook these waffles are the worst president since Hitler!”
they do deserve it.
Yes, but in this case, a handful of insane customers are standing in the Denny’s shouting bullshit at everyone and making it look like everybody in Denny’s is batshit crazy. And the non-stop attention being paid to the crazies, piled on top of the crazies themselves, is starting to make all those normal Dennyzens (LOL) depressed at the prospect that maybe everyone else at Denny’s really ARE crazy assholes, and that maybe the nice reasonable people really are the minority, and how to you learn to live in a Denny’s like that?
So, I think if all those nice, reasonable Denny’s customers can take a moment to stand up and say, very politely, “shhhhh, please” to those loud-mouthed racist douchebags, that’s pretty ok. Maybe it’ll just make the clowns shout louder, but at least all the normal customers will have had a chance to look around and see that, oh yeah, most of the people here are actually pretty nice and normal, so we don’t have to burn this Denny’s down and start over.
Dennyzens. ha. Rock and roll, Rex Manning.
well put….and i suppose in that situation, I’d be one of the sensible customers who shares eye-rolling glances and nods of solidarity with the people who ask them to keep it down.
but i’d just quietly stew to myself rather than engage them b/c i just dont feel like its worth it.
but i DO hope its a blast. have fun everyone.
Normally, I would be all over this but I got a 50 megughton sadtom bomb dropped on my heart and will be moving out of DC at the end of the month.
wwwest i hope everything is ok!
Who wants a ride in my Freedom Van?
Is it a Freedom van or a Freedom-Freedom van?
Ummm…do you have some candy?
This Freedom Van is a fake! The real one says “The Info Minute Van.”
I, for one, know where I’ll be before I go trick or treating Halloween weekend. Videogum field trip?
Beck’s speech was a parody event, so is a parody of a parody still a parody? That’s above my pay grade.
Ooh, VERY meta…
