Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World trailer, you guys:
Boy, it is going to be pretty tough for our nation’s nerds to decide which awkward-teenager-turned-superhero story they are going to embrace as a the best unrealistic idealization of a dreamworld in which their social awkwardness and deep-felt alienation actually means they’re heroes. Just kidding. There is so much room in a nerd’s life for awkward-teenager-turned-superhero stories that can be embraced as unrealistic idealizations of a dreamworld in which their social awkwardness and deep-felt alienation actually means they’re heroes. Deciding is for jocks!

Choosing our nation’s favorite awkward-teenager-turned-superhero is very simple:

BBR!!!!
Or is it Beiber…or is it Bieber?
He doesn’t count. He’s Canadian.
So is Cera.
Oh shit, this is bad. I smell conspiracy.
THEY’RE TRYING TO TAKE OVER OUR YOUTH CULTURE AND OUR HEALTH CARE. WHEN WILL IT STOP?!?!
Scott Pilgrim takes place in Canada. All the characters are Canadian. Because they’re from Canada.
Michael Cera in an action movie.
MICHAEL CERA IN AN ACTION MOVIE
Michael Cera starring in an action movie…
Michael
Cera…
and it looks AWESOME.
The first 30 seconds looks like the prequel to Eternal Sunshine.
Yes! The very first thing I thought was, “Wow, they’re just shamelessly ripping off the visual style there, aren’t they?”
Well how else are they going to explain that this girl is “quirky” and has “personality” without colored hair?
I love this!
And its curly too so that means she’s impulsive!
Stupid private video. I feel like this:
Actually, all this angst makes me really want to see this movie. Well played, private video!

Here’s the teaser trailer, not sure if it’s the same as in the one Gabe posted.
My apologies to Max Silvestri if he was going to come to this page to comment this, but
RT@maxsilvestri After having watched the Scott Pilgrim trailer: is Michael Cera getting smaller? He maybe has Ben Button disease? Real question.
I seriously LOLOLOL’ed when I read this because it is so true.
So, I’m pretty nerdy (and have been told so by drunk people on a startlingly regular basis) but I am not familiar with the source material for this. Am I missing out? I turn to you for advice, Nerd Monsters.
It’s pretty all right. I say that as a feminist lady who enjoys comic books but who does not enjoy sad men-children who blame women for their emotional problems. This is mostly not like that.
it’s kind of like that. but it’s fun.
I am also a feminist lady who enjoys comic books but does not enjoy sad men-children…
but Scott Pilgrim is like the boyfriend I make excuses for when he’s late to every family event. I just love him/it! And this trailer makes me ignore his flaws even more. I am so excited omgggggggg
I liked the comic books because they were full of awesome ladies (Kim Piiiiine! Played by Awesome Lesbian from Milk!), but I’m kind of over the weird masochistic nerd-boy thing where they’re surrounded by awesome ladies who mock them all the time and yet still want to sleep with them, or at least give them relationship/life advice.
Q: Are you into video games from the pre-PS2 era? Are you into comic books for more than unrealistic boobage and/or buttage? Do you have a soft-spot for Canadian melodrama?
If you answered “Yes” to any of these then you are missing out. But don’t take my word for it, preview the volumes for yourself:

Seriously, this is probably my most anticipated flick of 2010.
me too! dont ruin this for me, micheal cera!!
i liked it a lot. i bet your library has them. check it out! (library puns!)
you are on videogum, which means that you should like jokes that are related to culture or that are birthed from it, in a post-modern fashion. So you will probably like these books.
The books are a lot of fun. The art style is Genndy Tartokovsky-inspired (Powerpuff Girls, Dexter’s Lab, Samurai Jack), the narrative style (pacing, comic book panels) are heavily influenced by the manga language of storytelling, the characters are all heavily into music, the video game references are plentiful and inform the action and theirs enough boy-girl-boy-boy-girl-girl melodrama to shake a samurai sword at.
It’sa fun.
The books are cool and fun I think. But Michael Cera needs to MAN UP generally.
I already saw this trailer (and it is pretty epic in its epicousity [epicness is not a word])

But Huh?
For Michael Cera’s only.
oh cool grammar me
I think I need to go lie down
LOL
Let’s be a little more inclusive, shall we -

Meanwhile, the “Topher Grace Vs. The Buttz” trailer is Sux-Ass.
I’m going to be so sad if this is the Lol-ster or Da Cake Eatur or Da Bake Peter.
Wow, you’re really bringing the buttzsucking lately, it used to be once or twice a week but most articles today have had a generous helping of the suxbuttz. Kudos.
Thank you, dunebug.I recently decided to KFC Double Down on my efforts to spread the word about Topher’s unseemly buttsuxxing. I’m glad my words are having an effect on people. BUT WE MUST REMAIN VIGILANT
I didn’t get the appeal of this at first. How foolish I was.
Seriously, Michael Cera looks more and more like Michael Cera as the years go on.
Her?
A highlight of my pop-culture life was when my brother and I were discussing Ann & my mom couldn’t ever remember seeing her. Perfect.
As much as I liked Michael Cera in Arrested Development, I can’t stand the over exposed Michael Cera in every movie phenomenon that has gone on since then. He’s like a rich man’s Shia Lebouf.
Guess who’s pissed that Cera beat him to this role?
I hate not real names for things. “Scott Pilgrim”. Ok, maybe someones last name is Pilgrim. But it just sounds like such a characters name. I actually have no idea what this is about, from what’s been said it’s about superheroes. k
It’s a Plumtree song reference. The S.P. comics are on the same level as Spaced with pop-culture references. Maybe that’s why Edgar Wright was attracted to the project.
p.s. I’m a nerdfanboyofthisseries OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGICANTWAIT
I played peewee baseball with Scott Pilgrim. He was a jerk.
ive liked you for a thousand years

Off topic comment. For some reason, when I saw Mae Whitman, I thought of the first actress to play Ann… and I realized that it was Zoe from Caprica. Crazy.
Oh that is FREAKY. Zoe is the un-Egg.
*spoiler alert*
shut up Moat Shitter!
I still love Michael Cera movies (no homo), I just thought this was still applicable to (most) of his movies. I’m still gonna watch the shit out of this movie, though!
You mean MEGA homo
No duh, Ultimate no homo (maybe, I don’t think I’m his type)!. I’ve seen almost all movies he’s in, even Nick & Nora’s Infite Playlist. As a somewhat awkward indie boy/man/werewolf, I kinda relate to him and his character – note: singular
Fun fact: I wanted to try and find out if jwormyk’s reply of moat shitter was some sort of Cera-reference I didn’t get and this thread was the first Google result that came up! The more you know!
Can we draw up a sheet entitled “How To Make An Edgar Wright Film,” and then compare and contrast the two? I think if we do that then we’ll all be really informed as to what to expect. And we could also go read the books, which are great.
You post this like there’s something wrong with the Michael Cera formula.
if it aint broke, have it finger someone in a romantic comedy.
YIKES (at this flowchart, not Michael Cera. Everyone knows by know that he plays the same character.)
this flowchart does the opposite of streamlining. this would never fly on my powerpoint presentations!
My two year old son looked at Michael Cera and just asked me “Is that you, daddy?”
No more words…
This movies tagline is “an epic of epic epicness.” I kind of hate it already.
Well what’s Shaun of The Dead? Chopped liver? Since when was Edgar Wright a subject of such massive scrutiny? He’s so tongue in cheek it’s ridiculous.
Hot Fuzz was the Touch of Evil of 2007, though. I don’t know about you, but I took it pretty seriously.
No doubt, son. No doubt!
TORONTO!
why is the trailer private?
TOPHER GRACE NEWS ALERT!
From the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World post’s comments at AV Club:
“Scott is much more of a spaz than Cera has ever played. He had some flashes of it in Nick and Norah’s Infinite playlist but I’m still skeptical.
Topher Grace would have been perfect but now he’s too old.” -Larry Indiana
I’m a little too old for this movie ( read: I don’t like to have fun) but I will probably go see it to watch my girlfriend, Anna Kendrick.
I’m pathetic.
Totally not pathetic. I’m in love with Anna Kendrick. And I don’t even swing that way.
That’s a testament to her power.
Seriously. She’s the reason I went and saw New Moon. I’m not sure if it was worth it though…
Agreed. She was the reason I sat out the Marc Pease Experience (also, I like Jason Schwartzmann). Definitely not worth it. That movie could be a real contender for WMOAT. Swartzmann being a guy, still moping over shit that happened a decade ago and living with his high-school girlfriend? Ugh.
But the thirty seconds she had were the best, were they not?
I’m in love with Anna Kendrick, and I don’t even swing that way either! We are brothers (siblings?) in arms!
you guys, rocket science! right???
Totally, something about a woman who can speak over 150 words per minute excites me for some reason. Also, redheads, amirite?
They filmed some of this around my house and I was like “NnnnnnNNNNNnnNNnnnnn” the whole time. So pumped!
Man I really hope michael cera can pull this off. I don’t mind me some adorable michael cera awkwardness here and there, but scott pilgrim is totally the opposite of awkward! He’s super bad-ass! But oh man oh man is this exciting.
Did anyone else notice …her?
I’m one of the lucky few that can say I have actually seen a test screening of this movie, and let me assure you all. This movie is pretty amazing, and many of you are right about looking forward to it more than any other movie this year. Its pretty awesome. much more in the Edgar Wright line of films than the typical Cera film. Its fantastic.
