Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World trailer, you guys:

Boy, it is going to be pretty tough for our nation’s nerds to decide which awkward-teenager-turned-superhero story they are going to embrace as a the best unrealistic idealization of a dreamworld in which their social awkwardness and deep-felt alienation actually means they’re heroes. Just kidding. There is so much room in a nerd’s life for awkward-teenager-turned-superhero stories that can be embraced as unrealistic idealizations of a dreamworld in which their social awkwardness and deep-felt alienation actually means they’re heroes. Deciding is for jocks!

  1. Choosing our nation’s favorite awkward-teenager-turned-superhero is very simple:

  2. Michael Cera in an action movie.

MICHAEL CERA IN AN ACTION MOVIE

Michael Cera starring in an action movie…

    Michael

    Cera…

  3. The first 30 seconds looks like the prequel to Eternal Sunshine.

  4. Stupid private video. I feel like this:

  5. My apologies to Max Silvestri if he was going to come to this page to comment this, but

RT@maxsilvestri After having watched the Scott Pilgrim trailer: is Michael Cera getting smaller? He maybe has Ben Button disease? Real question.

I seriously LOLOLOL’ed when I read this because it is so true.

  6. So, I’m pretty nerdy (and have been told so by drunk people on a startlingly regular basis) but I am not familiar with the source material for this. Am I missing out? I turn to you for advice, Nerd Monsters.

    • It’s pretty all right. I say that as a feminist lady who enjoys comic books but who does not enjoy sad men-children who blame women for their emotional problems. This is mostly not like that.

      • it’s kind of like that. but it’s fun.

      • I am also a feminist lady who enjoys comic books but does not enjoy sad men-children…

but Scott Pilgrim is like the boyfriend I make excuses for when he’s late to every family event. I just love him/it! And this trailer makes me ignore his flaws even more. I am so excited omgggggggg

      • I liked the comic books because they were full of awesome ladies (Kim Piiiiine! Played by Awesome Lesbian from Milk!), but I’m kind of over the weird masochistic nerd-boy thing where they’re surrounded by awesome ladies who mock them all the time and yet still want to sleep with them, or at least give them relationship/life advice.

    • Q: Are you into video games from the pre-PS2 era? Are you into comic books for more than unrealistic boobage and/or buttage? Do you have a soft-spot for Canadian melodrama?

If you answered “Yes” to any of these then you are missing out. But don’t take my word for it, preview the volumes for yourself:

Seriously, this is probably my most anticipated flick of 2010.

    • i liked it a lot. i bet your library has them. check it out! (library puns!)

    • you are on videogum, which means that you should like jokes that are related to culture or that are birthed from it, in a post-modern fashion. So you will probably like these books.

    • The books are a lot of fun. The art style is Genndy Tartokovsky-inspired (Powerpuff Girls, Dexter’s Lab, Samurai Jack), the narrative style (pacing, comic book panels) are heavily influenced by the manga language of storytelling, the characters are all heavily into music, the video game references are plentiful and inform the action and theirs enough boy-girl-boy-boy-girl-girl melodrama to shake a samurai sword at.

      It’sa fun.

  7. I already saw this trailer (and it is pretty epic in its epicousity [epicness is not a word])
    But Huh?

  8. Meanwhile, the “Topher Grace Vs. The Buttz” trailer is Sux-Ass.

  9. Seriously, Michael Cera looks more and more like Michael Cera as the years go on.

  10. As much as I liked Michael Cera in Arrested Development, I can’t stand the over exposed Michael Cera in every movie phenomenon that has gone on since then. He’s like a rich man’s Shia Lebouf.

  11. Guess who’s pissed that Cera beat him to this role?

  12. I hate not real names for things. “Scott Pilgrim”. Ok, maybe someones last name is Pilgrim. But it just sounds like such a characters name. I actually have no idea what this is about, from what’s been said it’s about superheroes. k

  13. Off topic comment. For some reason, when I saw Mae Whitman, I thought of the first actress to play Ann… and I realized that it was Zoe from Caprica. Crazy.

  14. My two year old son looked at Michael Cera and just asked me “Is that you, daddy?”

    No more words…

  15. This movies tagline is “an epic of epic epicness.” I kind of hate it already.

  16. TORONTO!

  17. why is the trailer private?

  18. TOPHER GRACE NEWS ALERT!

From the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World post’s comments at AV Club:

“Scott is much more of a spaz than Cera has ever played. He had some flashes of it in Nick and Norah’s Infinite playlist but I’m still skeptical.

Topher Grace would have been perfect but now he’s too old.” -Larry Indiana

  19. I’m a little too old for this movie ( read: I don’t like to have fun) but I will probably go see it to watch my girlfriend, Anna Kendrick.

    I’m pathetic.

  20. They filmed some of this around my house and I was like “NnnnnnNNNNNnnNNnnnnn” the whole time. So pumped!

  21. Man I really hope michael cera can pull this off. I don’t mind me some adorable michael cera awkwardness here and there, but scott pilgrim is totally the opposite of awkward! He’s super bad-ass! But oh man oh man is this exciting.

  22. Did anyone else notice …her?

  23. I’m one of the lucky few that can say I have actually seen a test screening of this movie, and let me assure you all. This movie is pretty amazing, and many of you are right about looking forward to it more than any other movie this year. Its pretty awesome. much more in the Edgar Wright line of films than the typical Cera film. Its fantastic.
