I really can’t deal with the Rashida Jones aspect of Parks and Recreation. Don’t get me wrong, Rashida Jones is very good at having a really pretty face, and I don’t mind that she is on TV, or even on that show. Good for her! But the completely forced conceit that she is a normal nurse who just happens to spend all her time at the municipal building, submitting murinal ideas to the city council? No. I know that I have complained about this before, but it is only getting worse. And this season of Parks and Recreation is great! It is such a funny show that I laugh at when I am watching it, but when last night’s episode centered around a Parks Department side project in which Rashida Jones, a civilian, was completely and thoroughly involved in the planning, the inter-office banter, the presentation, and just everything, I kept yelling at the TV screen. Yelling! An adult! A grown man yelling at his TV during a sitcom in 2009. We can do better, you guys. All I want is a little honesty with my mockumentary.
But it was still a good night, all in all, TV-wise.
Community was great. Plenty of laffs. Cool Abed Films are some of the best films. The Office had one of its slipped-the-rails episodes, but it was still TBS very funny. “Crazy world, lots of smells.” Although, is it just me, or is that show getting almost TOO uncomfortable to watch? I love awkward silences and the hilarity of HUMAN DISCOMFORT as much as the next guy, but eesh! The Office should probably change its name to The Mega-eesh!
Oh, and of course there was this:

I wish she was the new cast member of TGS. And by TGS, I of course mean The Gabe Swillyoumarrryme.
Am I right?

Gabe, you’re being really inappropriate right now.
You can have your Padma, Gabe. The sexiest woman from last night’s lineup was Alison Brie.
Am I right? Y/Y
when trudy let her hair down i was all like WHAAAA!!?!?!
pete, we all love foreign nannies and dowdy working girls, but you got a great thing going with trudy. she’s secretly hot (the best kind of hot) and she’s on two of the best shows on tv – that’s a classy lady right there. if i were you, i’d keep my charleston in my pants when she’s not around.
signed,
arthur great, trudy campbell fan club vice-treasurer
You are absolutely 100% correct. I would give her an awkward head pat anytime. That’s where babie come from, right?
She also happens to be much better at acting and being funny than Padma. Which is a plus when you’re on a sitcom.
she seems to have misplaced her pants.
You are all correct! And that picture is my new desktop image.
I was so glad the show finally noticed how crazy beautiful she is.
Why is it that I had never seen this until after watching Community? Just thought I’d add another comment in what appears to be fast becoming the Alison Brie Appreciation Society Deezey Comment Replies. (Oh and sorry ladies. I’d find one of Mr. McHale doing something similar, for the sake of some much-need equality in this discussion, but I’m too distracted)
I accidentally threw my baseball in old man Delahaye’s yard once. He never gave it back.
Well, this is embarrassing.
“Your shirt is coming out of your pants”. Pierce is the best.
Has anyone else notcied recurring themes from show to show on thursdays?
Example: Halloween, both Parks and 30 Rock commented on Gay Halloween
Example 2: Last night, both community and 30 Rock had a character be able to predict another characters pattern of behavior and speech.
Why, does everyone write collaboratively in some mega comedy office underground, or has comedy evolution just slowed down a bit. I thought it was odd is all
YES, thank you. It’s weird, right? This is the third week in a row that’s happened.
what was week #1 if #2 was gay halloween and #3 was prescience?
Yeah, Community and 30 Rock both had Brian Williams references I noticed last week. Who hell he?
The best part of The Office this season is waiting to see what amazing new conspicuous fashion flourish Ryan is going to sport: fedora, check; faux eyeglasses, check; cardigan-tie matchup, check. Love it.
I had major SADFACE when Erin said she thought her date with Andy was real but oh well???
I want to make her sadness go away.
RE: 30 Rock. This isn’t the first time that Kenneth has been predicted as everyone’s future boss. His Palpatine scene with Danny was Franco eating pie.
Regular 6, drunk 7.
“In ten years, we’ll all either be working for him, or be dead by his hand.” – Jack D.
Gabe, I know you have a problem with Ann on Parks – luckily I happen to know “Solvers The Problem”
“What up you tall drink of bitch?!”
But Padma couldn’t be the new castmember of TGS because then Kelly Choi would have to replace her on Top Chef, and that can’t happen because Kelly Choi has to spend all eternity with Gael Greene and James Oseland and Hagrid because I think she killed a guy?
I agree about Rashida Jones, but the murinal bit really let the other characters shine and reveal more of the show’s unique personality (in contrast to The Office). Loving Aziz Ansari as Tom Haverford. The Office was all right. Padma was great on 30 Rock (worlds colliding!). Sunny was weak, but it’s hard to follow a home run like “Kitten Mittons.” And I like The League, esp. Paul Scheer and Nick Kroll, but I wish it wasn’t about football. Also, the two-dimensional super hot frigid overbearing housewife character has got to go.
I agree about The League…that it’s funny but creepily misogynistic at times? I am trying to roll with it. I feel like they stuck the “cool” football-loving wife in to somehow make up for the fact that the other women on the show are so one-dimensional. Except…reality check, lots of women like football and play fantasy sports so you don’t get extra credit, The League. Sorry.
Gabe I know you love your continuity and believability and all, but fo realllzzz, just go with it. Parks and Rec = so good right now what with the Duke Silver and the Tom’s murinal jokes and Rashida’s face and acting.
MEANWHILE, Padma is nice to look at and everything, but we need an acting coach! Stat! Maybe she could study under “Lesbian Yellow SourFruit”.
OH YEAH and Charlie continues to be the best thing on TV. Period. “Gruesome Twosome!”
Always Sunny was amaaaazing last night. They’re so silly with their fears of apple seeds, apple skins, and their brodependence. i gobbled it up with my tv eye spoons.
I loved Dennis freaking out about having the skin on his apple: “I’M NOT ALLOWED!”
You know, I don’t really have a problem with Rashida Jones’ character’s presence on Parks & Recreation. I think the buildup of she and Amy’s characters’ friendship, while initially unlikely, seems perfectly acceptable. Also, I have worked in a similar setting (it was arts based, but still a part of the city and county governments), and we had citizens who were this involved, one of whom was a friend of a coworker who happened to fall into it (like the pit only it was a project about bringing artists into schools, so not like the pit at all, nevermind) and then just stuck around. Whoah this was long. And not funny. Sorry guys, but I have truths to tell. PSAgum.
Plus she’s dating Mark now. They gave her multiple reasons to hang around. Plus it’s Rashida Jones… and she’s so pretty! That’s reason enough. Uh oh, now I sound like a character on The League.
Also, she is a nurse and nurses generally work 4 12 hour shifts a week which would give her 3 full days off. So, in my head I always think that her 3 days off are during the week and she works heavily during the weekends. That’s how I keep myself from yelling at the TV.
Agreed. They should change the name of the show to Parks and Wreck because every time she parks her fine ass up on that screen I wanna wreck my pants.
Nice try, Joe Jonas, everyone knows you’re the secret gay.
community: jeff and annie’s sexual tension is super creepy
fx network: i tried to watch sunny, which i still dont like, but it was not ultimately a waste of time because i learned that the commercial announcer for the league is the voice of space ghost
Buut she let her hair down, so it was really Jeff and Trudy Campbell sexual tension.
If you have $40, I heard the announcer of the league will give you a sketch and a handjob.
im assuming im being downvoted because i dont watch sunny, and not because people find jeff and annie really really hot. separately they are both vaguely cute, but together they are so creepy. hes so tall and old and lanky and shes so tiny and young its just weird.
I wish John Michael Higgins was in every episode of Community. I could honestly just watch him all day, he’s hilarious. “I always imagine my opponent having aggressive sex with my mother.”
“I shall duck behind this couch.”
“What a pro.”
#oldjohnmichaelhigginsquotes
“I am legally obligated to tell you there is no candy in this room.”
Think we could make a new BNPG out of John Michael Higgins quotes?
Yeah!
“He knows less than anyone we have ever questioned.”
“I was once called the worst audience participant in the history of Cirque du Soleil.”
We have to get this game to catch on!
I love him! I wish he were in every episode of everything.
Alison Brie is truly sexydorable, but my favorite Thursday night TV crush is still FlashForward’s Sonya Walger. She’s basically the only reason to watch, ever since that show decided it no longer needed things like “logic” and “compelling plot developments.” Am I the only one still barely hanging on to this mess?
I’ve not been watching Community because I only have enough room in my heart for The Office, but I tuned into NBC early last night and caught the second half. “HOW DARE YOU PITY ME?” before falling all over a whole drum kit? I am still lots of loving.
Although I did love the office. “Molasses jus’ sorta spillin outta your mouf” -Andy is THE BEST. Seriously this season he is the STAR. (Is it just me or are Jim and Pam incredibly boring now that there’s no sexual tension?) Oscar trying to do a southern accent was also hilarious.
The only thing is, wouldn’t Dunder Mifflin have lots more money if they BEGAN AIRING THIS 6-SEASON DOCUMENTARY?? Just a thought.
(P.S. “No, just poopin’ you know how I be” -Michael)
I busted a gut (which I now need to replace) when Oscar tried to southern accent the bad news.
And a classic Chevy Chase prat fall provided laffs like I didn’t think it could!
I’m going to need some more Louis CK on Parks and Rec. STAT! (As Rashida Jones would say because she’s a nurse. Occasionally.)
“He’s from Sesame Street, dumbass!”
Dang! I wanted to be the one to point out this line. Andy was so perfectly annoying with his “Savannah” accent then Kevin blew my mind! I couldn’t stop laughing for the rest of the night.
“Ooo ooo do the Swedish Chef.”
“I’m not familiar what province is he from.”
“HE LIVES ON SESEME STREET DUMBASS!!!!!!”
God that is so perfect in so many ways. Strangely (to me) community is fast becoming my favorite show on Thursdays. Abed’s film and Troy’s freaking out about them, plus werewolves!!?? so funny.
EXCEPT the Swedish Chef is not from Sesame Street, he is from The Muppet Show. That was a yell at TV moment for me. Stupid business people not knowing basic Muppet facts.
And I don’t like 30 rock reminding us of an end date. Alec Baldwin has talked about retiring, Jack mentioned last year that the show only has 2 seasons left, and Kenneth is some ubiquitous mouth-backed he-demon who is going to take over the company next year? Now I don’t want to go off on a rant.
THAT’S THE JOKE!
OMFGolly, I was terribly annoyed by The Office last night. That accent was funny the first 30 seconds, but the rest of the 29 minutes and 30 seconds, I was not amused. “STFU” I found myself yelling at the TV (I do believe High Def has the ability for the actors to hear the audience).
The NBC sitcoms are all fine and dandy, but everybody knows they are just a warm up for what’s on FX. And FX killed it. Paul Scheer was legendary. The discussion of body mass in Sunny. Its almost to perfect.
I am seconding the need for more Louis CK.
Had the LOL’s for full minutes when Kenneth subtly asked Tracey how he knew he had been alive forever. Kenneth has the sparkles, y’all.
Rashida Jones’s character might not have a plausible reason for hanging with the Parks Department, I might not have a plausible reason for hiding outside Rashida’s house in her bushes. Some things you just have to roll with.
Parks and Rec was great last night! It is weird how much time Rashida Jones spends at the office considering she doesn’t work there and also has another job which would normally be a full-time gig. Nurse Jackie would probably be so mad at all the shifts she’s missing! With the League, I almost wish they didn’t have any women on there so they could focus on this boy’s club they’ve created. Because one woman that is super into football doesn’t really negate the horrible, uptight wife that grates my nerves. I’m also in love with Taco, so having a show without women would make it easier for me to fantasize. My life is tears of a clown very sad.
“I have to take this call. It’s Brooke Hogan”.
“how long have you been there??”
“a few minutes” “nine hours”
I thought last night’s Sunny was one of the best of the season. I was so glad they finally stopped arguing and yelling over each other for a while. It’s TBS very funny sometimes, but when they rely on it too often it can get TBS very annoying.
It made my heart melt. There were too many times during the episode where the six people I was watching it with looked at each other and went, “Ooooohhhhhh!”
I would just like to use this post to brag that I am now in possession of “A Very Sunny Christmas”. Only 20 minutes in and so far it’s excellent.
Cheyenne Jackson, you guys! He killed the scene where Kenneth made him into an actor.
Also “Who is he carrying?”"Jesus Greg Kennear!”
i’m sorry, how has no one mentioned jenna’s appearance in “trivial pursuit: the movie” yet?
This week’s 30 Rock was the worst of its season. Although Kenneth’s “WHO SAID I’VE BEEN ALIVE FOREVER?” was amazing. Also, the waffles.
When Jack moves the candle so that Liz’s sleeve won’t catch on fire? Adorbz.
I continue to watch parks and recreation only because aubrey plaza is probably the cutest girl ever.
No one mentioned Liz’s agent, Simon–Josh Fadem. He was the greatest! he also once appeared in Sunny. I would very much like him to be the new TGS cast member.
“Do you have any drinkable yogurt?” Hilarious!
